Before this South Africa was in no.1 who now moves to no.2. After India being the no.1 team, India is the third team to top the ODI rankings after Australia and South Africa since the system of rankings started in 2001.

In order to remain the no.1 spot, India needs to win both the upcoming matches of he series which are both against Sri Lanka.
